An uprooted tree stands at the edge of the water, its exposed roots twisted upward into a weathered sculpture of wood, earth, and time. Behind it, a broad Wyoming sky moves from cold blue-gray clouds to a thin band of warm light along the horizon.
In color, the bleached wood still dominates the photograph, but small traces of brown, gold, blue, and rust remain in the landscape. What was once hidden underground has become the most visible part of the tree—a record of where it stood and what it took to hold on.
Sadly as pat of the State parks cleanup programs it is gone now, preserved here in this one of a kind image in color.
